Music of the Day is two years old today. With other things on my mind of late, I hadn’t noticed the approaching date until
made a request for today’s MotD. That piece is nice and may show up here at some point; alas, it doesn’t tie in with the significance of this day for me.The request prompted me to start thinking about how to mark the occasion, for which I’m grateful. But nothing really seemed right, unlike last year. This morning, it all came crystal clear, aided no doubt by my recent focus on harder rock and metal. And it loops back nicely to the very first MotD.
“Magic Power” hit me hard when I first heard it, because the story captured some important elements of my youth. I still feel that when I hear it, though my focus today is on how music has been a magic power1 in my life for so long. This Triumph classic from their 1981 album Allied Forces is a perfect fit for how I’m feeling: grateful for the music in my life, and freshly re-energized to keep sharing music here and working toward other goals.
Thank you so much for being part of the celebration of music here at Music of the Day. With the addition of
and my occasional excursions into unexpected mashups and unusual instruments, it’s unlikely that every post hits a sweet spot for you … but I hope that most of them add to your appreciation of music’s beautiful diversity and its magic powers.if the thought of magic squicks you, think about it in terms of mysterious or unexplained influences, rather than occult practices; humans are not nearly as rational as some psychologists and economists would have us believe

Congrats on two years Jackie!!
