Randy was gifted in many ways. One of the keys to his signature sound (in the studio) was that he played each part three times. One tracked left, one tracked right, and one in the center. They were identical (that is super hard) but when mixed together delivers the lushest chorus effect, a shimmery sound that is just ethereal.
Live he uses a chorus and a splitter to have a slightly different phase sent to the left and right, a compromise that is quite good.
From that album is a short-ish acoustic piece, a tribute to his mother, Dee. In it, he double tracks with a steel string and a nylon string. That is just audible poetry!
That track caught my eye as I was researching this piece; I'll be listening to it soon and expect I'll be buying the entire album at some point. The only solo Ozzy I have is "The Ozzman Cometh," and that just ain't right.
I'm sure his use of tech is an important part of Randy's phenomenal sound; and I'm just as sure that there's something about his classical training that contributes too. I just can't identify what it might be.
So what was the new lyric in the live version? I still have my Wii Guitar Hero hooked up to my TV! I rarely play the drums anymore but I do pull out the “guitar” on occasion and play along to this one and a host of other classics.
I didn't write it out because I can't figure out the last line.
The original version's last verse goes: "Crazy, I just cannot bear/I'm living with something that just isn't fair."
All I can understand from this version is: "Crazy, but what do I care/ I'm living with something ..." Maybe it's "I don't want to share," but I'm not sure.
This one never goes out of style. Unfortunately?
Ah, but my fave version is this one - https://youtu.be/FuOuUixdSvY?si=ZF6ZOkJ9Gy65GTCk
OMFG, that is hilariously brilliant! Thanks, Alma!

I just love this song. Always have. This is a great take.
Great song and version. I love Ozzy, and Randy's playing is amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Big fan of this song!
