Looking over this week’s musical offerings, it would seem that I’ve slowly slid into a slump. It’s been a challenging week for me, but I don’t feel down or depressed; I think the radio station in my mind has been focused on other aspects of the music it’s been serving up.
But it’s definitely time to change things up a little bit. A while back, I discovered Rock Candy Funk Party (RCFP) and was enchanted enough to listen to several songs. Something like that, I told myself, would be just the thing to kick off the weekend in fine style. It took me a bit of searching in my YouTube history, but here it is.
“Don’t Funk with Me” is off Grooove Is King,1 which was released in 2015. Additional personnel on this release include Randy Brecker on trumpet, Ada Rovatti on sax, and ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons as Mr. Funkadamus.
The woodwinds certainly give this track a brighter tone than “Octopus-e,” but the guitars seem to lean a little higher too. It’s still very tasty, and the fresh vibe has me tempted to ditch playing the flute today, and proceed straight to a cold adult beverage. I hope it puts some pep in your step, too.
Yes, I know it’s styled as “Groove” just about everywhere, but I can’t help it if others ignore what’s plain to see and read. At least this isn’t as silly as styling We Want Grooove as We Want O Groove. FFS, people!
