The sound of the wooden flute is delightfully natural and mellow. Having attempted some of the Bach Cello Suites (albeit on electric bass), I can appreciate somewhat how difficult this gorgeous piece must be to play on the flute.
I recall you mentioning that project to me some time ago; I take it it was challenging. You might like this video from the Netherlands Bach Society: Cello Suite in D Major (BWV 1012): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbH3JYfRjOQ I had no idea a cello could be played that way!
That looks like a viola (violoncello) da spalla. Bach's 6th cello suite was written for an instrument with five strings, and people have been trying to figure out the identity of that instrument. (This is one reason I had a luthier make me a five-string fretless bass!) What a delicious recording - such resonance in that old water tower or wherever they recorded it.
You are right; thank you for the correction, Peter. I had noticed the five strings and read about the instrument, but completely forgot it in the time it took me to return here to post the link.
Lovely piece and beautiful performance, thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it, Mark. Happy hiking!

That's such a pretty song, and the wooden flute is exquisite!
