Saw Dave Mason show in NYC in mid 70s with an obscure opening act who blew him away…turned out to be Peter Frampton just before he broke out. I was just a wee lad then.
That jangly sound is most likely a 12 string tuned an octave apart. It could be an octave effect, I know they existed in the mid 70's (Hendrix used an Octavia, but it could only halve the frequency, and I am not sure that one that went up an octave existed, but that is a guess.)
Mason was the composer of the much-recorded classic "Feelin' Alright".
