Frustration. I don’t like it, but that may be the theme of my week. Can I just toss out a couple of categories to provide context and then move on? They are “enshittification” and “some people.” But not all is on the negative side: while thinking about what I wanted to listen to while working this morning, I remembered a groovy band a friend introduced me to several months ago and decided I needed to hear something by them immediately.
What I settled on turned out to be quite different from their debut MotD piece, but is every bit as satisfying.
“Too Long” is from the Monophonics’ 2015 album, Sound of Sinning. I chose the track randomly from the band’s YouTube channel and was delighted when it fit my mood. Even the line “I believe in me” hit at the right time.
I can’t work well to non-instrumental songs; even if the words are in an unfamiliar language or are a nonsense chant, I can’t seem to get my mind to not lock on them in order to wring some meaning out of them.1 So while I won’t be listening to the full album while I work, I do plan to return to it this afternoon. Whether it’s mostly languorous music or something more up tempo, I’m confident I’ll enjoy it.
Speaking of instrumentals, there seems to be a small group of y’all trying to sway me to feature more classical pieces in this space. In addition to the recent public encouragement, YouTube has been dogging me; and this morning a dear friend dropped an irresistible link in my lap. So it’s on, friends. Not sure when, but it’s gonna happen.2 But first I’ll be soaking in more of the Monophonics’ delectable sound.
also frustrating! But I can deal with it
and at least one will feature another unusual instrument
If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend listening to Mono's singer, Kelly Finnegan's, 2019 solo LP, 'The Tales People Tell.' It is superb!
