Your recent foray into Nada Surf has had me playing their albums (some for the first time). What an underrated band. They knew how to tap into that minor-chord pop-melody emotional core that only the best songwriters can access. Thanks for the reminder to revisit Nada Surf.

I didn't want to call them underrated on the basis of just one album, so I'm encouraged by your application of the label, Steve. And you're very welcome; glad you've enjoyed their music.

Do you have a recommendation for the next Nada Surf album for me to listen to?

Yes! Really, you can't go wrong with any of them. But I was just listening to their 2020 Never Not Together album again and it is such a great alterna-pop album. Nada Surf has an open-heartedness that most bands don't even come close to reaching. Their song "So Much Love" gets me in all the feels.

"Open-heartedness" captures it perfectly. Looking forward to exploring more of their music.

Nada Surf just posted a new song from their forthcoming album (September 13) on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y04nc_Hy9EY

I only ever had the one Nada Surf album with Popular in it and not sure I ever listened to the whole album. Thanks for putting the band back on my radar. I need to dig into them a little bit.

I told Jackie this in a different thread, but pretty much all their albums are good to great. There's a genuine open-heartedness in much of their songwriting (especially later albums) that is refreshing in an increasingly cynical world. I recommend You Know Who You Are (2016) and Never Not Together (2020).

Thanks Steve, I’ll start with these albums. Honestly I didn’t know they’d continued making music.
