Great subtitle for your post and cool song. It reminds me of substacker Michael Estrin calling Rush a philosophy movement posing as a rock band (or something like that). Think he might be right.

As a former cognitive psychologist whose research focused on perceiving and remembering, those lines grabbed my attention with first listen.

I agree with you regarding Estrin's observation, and will add that all three of them are included. It's easy to give Neil Peart the credit as the band's primary lyricist, but Geddy's contributions aren't shabby, and I'm sure Al's sense of humor figures in there too. Quite the Gestalt (since I went all psychological already).

This may well be my favorite Rush tune of all time. I return to it again and again and again and . . .

It's easily in my all-time top five. "Available Light" is another I'll never tire of.

I felt much the same way about "Vital Signs" -- if it had been on any other album, it would have been remembered for the genius track that it was. Yet on MOVING PICTURES, it was completely overshadowed! Great post, and not just because I agree with it wholeheartedly LOL

Ha! Thanks, Lara. Maybe we should start a blog of Rush analysis once your year is completed. ๐Ÿ˜‰
