My son and I drove from Iowa to Colorado a few years back, about 14 hours. He spent the entire time playing new music for me, from Black Metal to Post Rock to Shoegaze to stuff with the word "core" in ot that I can't even remember. And most of it was fantastic. It's a great way to make a long drive feel more ... something. Time well spent.
Sounds like a great road trip in a lot of ways. Got any recommendations, please and thank you?
My kids have done similarly for me to some degree, but our tastes overlap a good bit so it's not as common that they introduce me to new genres/subgenres. Both the -core and -gaze subgenres remain mysteries to me.
Swans and Russian Circles are two names that stuck. There was a Scottish black metal band that was outstanding, but I can't remember their name and if I ask my son AGAIN he will make fun of me. Their lead singer has a silky, dirty, velvety baritone that gave me a "come to mama" moment, wowzers. We also love Mogwai, who are just the coolest. Saw them live BC and they were sublime.

Thank you so much!
