I don't have any SS records but have always loved Maddy Prior's voice.

I. Love. Steeleye Span!!! As a former aspiring celtic musician ( currently, a singer-songwriter with more influences that I can really count) they spoke to me on a cellular level way back in the day. I can't get enough. I especially love Martin Carthy incarnation!

As a new subscriber who hasn't explored your archives yet, I thought I detected a whiff of Celtic in what I have heard by you, Alma. Do you have any album suggestions for me to explore next?

I am relieved that you responded so kindly to my comment, Alma. But I am mortified—both as one who's been a professional writer and as a person who tries to be consistently thoughtful and kind—that my comment is unclear at best and rudely presumptuous. My question was intended to garner some Steeleye Span recommendations ... particularly ones that feature Carthy, since you singled him out.

LOL okay! “All Around My Hat” is a fantastic record from the Carthy era, possibly my favorite. He and Maddy raise chills every time.

I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of Steeleye Span but I enjoyed this track. I’d also never heard of Imbolc, so it was fun to go read about that
