Good choices. I know a fair number of those songs well.

Great list! Earth Wind and Fire now and forever, got me out of my chair and dancing.

Never heard the Devlins and Social Distortion before and loved their songs. Must explore them more.

Penis Envy was hysterical. A topic worth thinking about.

I couldn't listen to more than a few bars of Jackie Blue as it's such an earworm. It would be playing in my head for days.

Four Tops and Stealers Wheel songs, long-time favorites. Really enjoyed revisiting Vicki Sue and King Harvest as well.

Sorry about the earworm, Ellen, but I couldn't leave "Jackie Blue" off the list. I'd noticed from a young age that lots of hit songs featured women's names and never thought mine would be among them. (It also helped that my older sister's name hadn't popped up when "JB" became a hit ... and I don't think it has still, heh.)

I didn't make the connection! Of course you had to include it. And don't worry, I caught it in time so it's not on automatic replay.

I don't think anyone's written a song about me except my brother, and it was just singing my name over and over again, which he sweetly recorded on cassette for me. You have a proper song!

Looky what I found: a tool that searches song titles for specific words! https://www.chosic.com/song-title-search/ You have many songs to choose from, although I doubt any will beat your brother's. That is indeed a sweet gift.

What a great tool. Thanks for finding and sharing it.

The Ellen Poop Song -- my sibs will consider it perfect (if I tell them, as I may live to regret it).

I'll have fun exploring the other options as well. Who knew?!

This is a hella good list... "Jackie Blue" (shades of older kidhood), "Turn the Beat Around' (AM radio - yaysville!) and "Through Being Cool" (speaks for itself!). Mucho gracias!

Thank you, Peter. I'm definitely not blue today!

I was a bit fan of most of these songs, especially the tracks by Devo, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, and King Harvest. Don't know "Penis Envy" but I know people who do...

Thank you, Mark. I smiled when I saw your Social Distortion pick for your recent missive ... that was a close runner-up for my list. Best wishes for happy and safe hiking!

Jackie, you offer up a feast here, and a challenge for this pop-culture challenged individual. Too much to comment on so let me just say thanks for your tireless work. Please forgive S&UP for not subscribing already, but we (me and Milo: CEO) keep a short list of reads so we can give them full credit. We will make a space for you soon, meanwhile please excuse us for freeloading (we're freeloaders). We can, however, restack and recommend.

Ellen sent me following Alice down the rabbit's hole and into Wonderland for a bit, coming up for air.

Thank you for your kind words, David.

There's nothing to forgive nor excuse, as far as I can see. Your Substack subscriptions, feeds, etc. are yours to do with as you wish, and I'm glad you are carefully cultivating your content. Everyone who drops by here to celebrate music will always be welcome, no matter how short or long the visit.

Jackie, don't let this get out, but we bumped Patti Smith to put you in our stack (might go to Hell for it) she won't miss us, and we kept Jesse Paris cause we can get a comment in once in a while, and she responds. Glad to make your acquaintance.
