I'm a big Association fan. Their 2CD Rhino anthology "Just The Right Sound" goes far past their hits to show how engaging and experimental their work was in their prime.

Their hits were a soundtrack for my childhood, including "Cherish." But now I especially like "Along Comes Mary" and I'm surprised when I look at the lyrics. They were too fast for me to follow as a kid, I just liked the tune. But I always thought there was an edge to it!

I remember hearing a lot of their music on the AM radio station my parents listened to; my favorite—especially when I started learning to play the flute—was "Windy." The Association did have an edge, which took me a little while to appreciate, I think. In my previous MotD featuring them, I mentioned my current favorite song: https://musicoftheday.substack.com/p/12-sep-23-the-association-windy

Yes, love Windy as well. They were huge on our local AM radio station too, but my parents listened to the crooners on LPs. My brother and I were the radio rock and roll fans.

'Windy" is an underrated classic, and (according to Spotify) somehow "Goodbye Columbus" has become one of my most listened to songs this year

That sounds like it could be an interesting story, Kevin! Deft rhyming in the chorus.

Having lived there for several years, I assumed it was referring to Columbus, Ohio. While listening to it, I learned that that is indeed the reference; the song is from the movie soundtrack, and the movie is from a novella of the same name.
