Beautiful song and a beautiful movie. H&M is my favorite film of all time. I have watched it on VHS, DVD, and in arthouse cinemas on the big screen. I have also introduced it to numerous people over the years, and they, too, loved it. Amazingly, there was never a soundtrack released (presumably not to compete with 'Tea For The Tillerman'). But several years ago, a Japanese label compiled it as a beautiful package with notes and reproductions of the original film poster, and a reissue was released for Record Store Day a few years ago.
Add me to having H&M as my favorite film. I could prove it by linking to the post I wrote for Matty C's What Am I Making newsletter last year, but it's all paywalled, so you'll just have to believe me! 😀
It was my litmus test movie for new girlfriends when I was younger. It was my film version of High Fidelity's Rob Fleming's album test for potential girlfriends.
This and the soundtrack to Birdy (Peter Gabriel songs) are my two favorite single-artist soundtracks.
What a litmus test, Steve! If I'd applied it to the boyfriend who became my husband (and now my wasband), it would have saved us and others a lot of pain. Based on your comment, I think I need to watch "Birdy" soon.
Birdy is one of my all-time favorites. Nic Cage in his early years is sublime and Matthew Modine is fantastic. No spoilers, but it has one of my top-5 final scenes from a movie.
As I recall, a soundtrack was never released because those involved wanted to make the movie an extra-special experience - you had to see the film to hear the music.

Agreed on both points, Michael. I should give in and call "Harold and Maude" my favorite movie too. It's been far too long since I've watched it.

Stevens' Wikipedia page touches briefly on the issue: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cat_Stevens&oldid=1288810670
This Cat Stevens album was a favorite when I was in high school. Wonderful song. Thanks for sharing it today.
An inspired choice, Jackie.
One of my favorite albums of my youth. Thanks for the reminder.
